LÜRSSEN YACHTS HISTORY

Lürssen’s story begins in 1875, when Friedrich Lürssen opened a small boatyard near Bremen, Germany. From the very beginning, his lightweight, beautifully crafted racing boats earned a great reputation. Then, in 1886, Friedrich shocked the world by building the first-ever motorboat using an engine designed by Gottlieb Daimler. At the turn of the 1900s, his son Otto joined the business, bringing engineering expertise and exceptional craftsmanship. This combination sparked record-breaking speedboats and stunning motor yachts. After Otto’s sudden passing in 1932, his wife Frieda stepped up and took the lead. Their sons, Gert and Fritz-Otto, grew the company after World War II, highlighted by the iconic Carinthia V in 1971. Today, the fourth generation, Friedrich and Peter, continue this legacy of quality and craftsmanship, creating some of the finest yachts in the world.

LÜRSSEN YACHTS PHILOSOPHY

Lürssen’s philosophy is based on uncompromising quality, innovation, and craftsmanship. As a family-owned yard, the yachts are delivered with great attention to detail, fostering a bond of trust and loyalty with clients and employees. Sustainability is fundamental: Lürssen leads the way in energy-efficient technologies and in reducing pollution. Its vision goes beyond yachtbuilding; it encompasses maintaining the oceans as well as supporting future generations through education and research. In essence, Lürssen creates yachts with passion and precision, always striving to exceed expectations. Wherever and whenever possible, the company works to realize each owner’s vision while honoring the sea that has inspired its craft, marrying technical excellence with respect for the oceans.

LÜRSSEN YACHTS MODEL LINES

Lürssen doesn’t offer model or production lines. Instead, they build fully bespoke luxury superyachts, ranging from approximately 55 meters to over 180 meters, tailored to each client’s specific requirements. Here are five of their most notable yachts.

DILBAR

Dilbar is the world's largest motor yacht by gross tonnage, measuring 156 meters with a massive 15,917 GT and a volume for entertainment and recreational spaces unseen on other yachts. Delivered in 2016, she features an exterior by Espen Øino International and a luxurious interior by Winch Design, along with amenities such as the largest indoor swimming pool on a yacht (25 meters) and two helipads.

AZZAM

Azzam, built in 2013, is the world’s longest private motor yacht at 180.65 meters. She boasts a sleek steel hull with an aluminum superstructure, spanning seven decks. Her twin gas turbines and diesel engines let her reach a Maximum Speed of 34 knots. The yacht was designed by Nauta Yachts, and the interior design was completed by Christophe Leoni. Azzam can accommodate up to 36 guests and is equipped with a helipad, a large swimming platform, and advanced noise and vibration insulation that brings together luxury, engineering, and performance.

KISMET

The Kismet is a 122-meter yacht built in 2024 that represents style and innovation. Designed by Nuvolari Lenard, with interiors by Reymond Langton Design, she combines elegance with advanced technology. She has a wellness suite, underwater cinema, spa, gym, and a large jaguar figure at the bow. Kismet welcomes up to 16 guests and has won multiple awards, including Motor Yacht of the Year and Best Exterior Design in 2025.

LADY JORGIA

Lady Jorgia (ex. Ahpo) is a 115.10-meter luxury motor superyacht built in 2021 for the Canadian-Jamaican billionaire Michael Lee-Chin. Designed by Nuvolari–Lenard, she features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, an extensive wellness area, a large main deck pool with spa jets, and numerous sports facilities to promote family-focused activities. The superyacht also boasts advanced technology, such as a heat recovery system for the pool water, and is capable of dynamic positioning for anchoring in sensitive areas.

BLUE

Launched in 2022, Blue measures 160 meters, making her one of the world’s five largest yachts. Designer Terence Disdale blended elegance with sustainability, installing diesel-electric hybrid propulsion, multiple advanced waste and biowaste treatment systems, as well as exhaust after-treatment. With seven decks of luxury — including two helipads, a spa, and a beach club — Blue represents a new generation of Lürssen design.
