Bodrum Shipyard
About Bodrum Shipyard
Bodrum has a long shipbuilding tradition, dating back to the Ottoman Empire. The Bodrum Shipyard became one of the Empire's primary suppliers of galleons and other large naval vessels in the 18th and 19th centuries, supporting its sea power against piracy and rival nations. Written records show that as early as 1727, ships were built at Bodrum on the orders of Cafer Pasha, the Chief Admiral of the Ottoman Navy. Today, modern iterations like Barka Shipyard (part of Begüm Yachting Group) offer full-service operations for superyachts up to 40 meters, including new builds, refits, repairs, and haul-outs via a 400-tonne travel lift across 6,500 sqm of seafront space. Bodrum's shipyards leverage state-of-the-art facilities, drawing on the region's ancient seafaring legacy—from ancient admirals like Artemisia to Turgut Reis—for luxury yacht construction and maintenance. The site now blends history with innovation, hosting art galleries in preserved structures.
