OVERVIEW
The 50.9 m./167’ expedition yacht NORTHERN SUN, built by Narasaki Shipyard and the World Superyacht Awards winner, blends luxurious style with high-performance capabilities. Launched for adventurous cruising, she has spacious indoor/outdoor areas, three entertainment salons, a Jacuzzi-sundeck, and an ice-strengthened hull, offering a 10,000 nm. range for unparalleled exploration.
The Full History & Key Facts
Originally built in 1976 by Narasaki Shipyard as the ice-class research vessel Hokko Maru ("Northern Light"), NORTHERN SUN was designed for studying ocean currents and marine life in the North Japan Sea. This sturdy steel explorer ship was the largest yacht Narasaki had built at the time. In 2006, she underwent a two-year refit, transforming her into a luxurious superyacht while preserving key original features, such as the Master cabin and engine room, and adding modern systems, expansive decks, a Jacuzzi, gym, and lounges. For more than 15 years, NORTHERN SUN has been used for Southeast Asia explorations and charters, gaining fame on "Below Deck Down Under".
Guest Accommodation
NORTHERN SUN welcomes up to 12 guests in six elegantly appointed suites. These are a Master cabin, three doubles, and two twins. Sleeping arrangements include one king, two queens, one double, and five single beds. A dedicated crew onboard guarantees a premium yacht charter vacation.
Onboard Amenities & Entertainment
Aboard NORTHERN SUN, every moment is designed for relaxation and excitement. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the gym equipment. The deck Jacuzzi is a great place to unwind with warm bubbles and breathtaking sea views. The spacious sunpads are perfect for sunbathing; the swimming platform allows easy access to the water for leisure, swimming, and various water activities.
Performance & Technical Specifications
Constructed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, NORTHERN SUN provides expansive onboard space and enhanced stability at anchor thanks to her full-displacement design. Twin Yanmar engines allow a smooth Cruising Speed of ten knots and a Maximum Speed of 13 knots, with an impressive range of up to 10,000nm. on 175,000 liters of fuel. Advanced stabilizers grant a comfortable journey in all conditions.
Water Toys & Equipment
NORTHERN SUN is equipped with a wide range of water toys and equipment, offering endless opportunities for fun and adventure on the water. Laser sailboats and kayaks allow exploration of the coastline; the Awake electric surfboard adds an extra thrill. Wakeboards, wakesurf boards, and water skis provide high-speed excitement, and inflatable doughnuts and a waterslide ensure relaxed entertainment. Paddleboards are perfect for calm waters; snorkelling and scuba diving equipment enable underwater exploration. Tender options include a SEAT 219 RIB, a 6.8 m ACS tender, and a 3.6 m Zodiac RIB with a 25 HP engine, making it easy to reach secluded beaches, dive spots, or nearby islands.
