The lovely schooner ELENA was built in 2009, using the original designs penned by Nathaniel Herreshoff in 1910. Her original sister-ship held the record for the transatlantic race in 1928 – this is a sprightly yacht, a true super-sailer. Wide uncluttered decks offer endless opportunities for lazing in the sun or dining beneath the stairs. Below decks, she has been lovingly recreated with rich mahogany panelling and deep red leathers: the full-beam main saloon is a relaxing spot for sitting and chatting or enjoying fine dining. Any signs of modern life have been artfully concealed beneath her authentic fittings – but she does benefit from modern communications and air-conditioning. The four guest cabins are half-panelled in mahogany – the rest is painted white, making them feel bright and airy.
